There are few hairstyles as timeless and sexy as beachy waves. With their feigned effortlessness and artfully tousled appeal, it’s no surprise they have such a widespread presence, sported by everyone from Hailey Baldwin to Gisele Bündchen. Whether you have a beach vacation planned or are looking for a way to infuse some bounce into your hair with minimal effort, we’ve got everything you need to know about perfecting the art of imperfection.
Keep reading and watch the video below, to discover how to achieve perfect beachy waves yourself, no beach or salty ocean water required! Our beautiful friend Ana shares her tried and true tutorial for getting those gorgeous, breezy waves.
Step 1
Begin by spraying some heat protectant spray throughout your hair. We recommend starting off with air dried or blow dried hair to help speed up the process. Be sure to saturate your strands thoroughly to minimize damage. Ana’s hair is on the fragile side and therefore, easily prone to breakage when heat styling. If your hair texture is similar, using a quality heat protectant is will ensure you are protecting your hair optimally.
Step 2
Select the hot tool you want to use to achieve your beachy waves. We recommend the Luxy Hair Signature Curler. Ana opts for a 1.5 inch barrel curling wand. You can also use a curling iron, if you prefer working with a clamp. Keep in mind that Ana has short hair so she finds the 1.5 inch barrel to be sufficient, however, if your hair is longer or you want a looser curl, a larger barrel is best.
Step 3
Section off the top part of your hair to ensure you don’t miss any pieces. The key to achieving perfect beachy waves is curling your hair in different directions to give you a piecey and tousled appearance.
Step 4
Taking a medium size section of hair from the bottom layer of your head, begin curling your hair away from your face. For the next section of hair, wrap the hair over the wand so that it is curled towards your face. Continue curling the rest of your hair, alternating the direction of each section as you go. Be mindful not to hold the curl around the wand for too long as this will give you a tight, ringlet style that you want to avoid if you’re going for beachy waves.
Step 5
Once you’re done curling all of your hair, spray some texturizing spray throughout your hair to help add volume. This will help give you that messy, beachy look without causing your curls to fall out.
There you have it, perfectly imperfect beachy waves you can create yourself at home. If you’re looking to add some extra length or volume to your hair, just clip-in some Luxy Hair extensions before you begin styling. Want to dial up the beach factor? We recommend our Balayage Collection to give your hair some sun-kissed dimension and highlights without the dye.
