6. Sleek High Ponytail With Extensions

Want a super sleek ponytail to make you feel like a total girl boss? The first tutorial in the following video is the look for you.

Step 1

Start off by creating a small ponytail at the crown of your head. This little ponytail will act as a secure base for clipping in the hair extensions.

Step 2

Take a 3-clip weft and start clipping it in around the ponytail. Be sure to clip in as close to the hair elastic as possible, so that you will have space to clip in other wefts. The tighter you clip these wefts in around the hair elastic, the more comfortable it will feel.

Step 3

Continue to clip 2 and 3-clip wefts in the same manner, around the ponytail that you’ve created. For extra thickness, you can use 1-clip wefts and simply clip them onto the wefts that are already clipped into your hair.

Step 4

Then, gather all your hair into a high ponytail and make sure that it covers the wefts. This is why it was important to clip them in tightly - the smaller the base, the easier it is to conceal it.

Step 5

Secure the ponytail with a hair tie and smooth away any flyaways.

Step 6

To finish off the look, take a hair strand and wrap it around the base of your ponytail to hide the elastic and polish off the look.

7. Quick Messy Ponytail Using Hair Extensions

The second tutorial in the following video is probably our favorite way to wear hair extensions in a ponytail. The whole idea is to clip in the wefts in the same direction that your hair would go in naturally when put up in a ponytail.  Karin is wearing her 220g Dirty Blonde Luxy Hair extensions for added length and volume.

Step 1

Start off by separating some hair at the front and clip in a 2-clip weft as you normally would. If you want more volume in your ponytail, you can clip in two wefts in this section.

Step 2

Separate the hair mid-way and flip upside down. Make sure you leave enough hair at the nape of the neck to cover the wefts afterwards.

Step 3

Continue clipping in wefts, but this time upside down. This way, when you put up your hair in a high ponytail, the clips will not pull at your roots and will feel very comfortable. This tutorial is a great visual example on how to do this technique.

Step 4

Take out random hair pieces and baby hairs at the front to frame your face and get that messy look going.

Step 5

Tug at the top of your hair to loosen up the ponytail.

Step 6

Take random sections of the ponytail, and tease them. Here is a video tutorial on how to get volume and tease your hair, if you’re not sure how to do it.

Step 7

Use hairspray to set the look (we recommend a natural hairspray—read why in this post).

Step 8

For extra texture, scrunch the hair upwards with your hand. There you have it: a fun and super playful ponytail hairstyle!

8. Romantic Ponytail With Extensions

The third tutorial in the following video is a romantic take on the classic ponytail. For this hairstyle, you can either clip in some wefts (3 and 4-clip wefts) or the full set for extra thickness. Karin is wearing a few wefts from her 220g Dirty Blonde Luxy Hair extensions for added length and volume.

Step 1

Since this ponytail sits lower on the head, clip in your extensions as you normally would.

Step 2

Pull up the hair into a low ponytail. Feel free to have your hair parted whichever way you prefer.

Step 3

Start curling your ponytail in soft curls. Here we have a great collection of videos on different techniques of curling hair—pick your favorite!

Step 4

Brush out the curls for a soft and romantic look.

Step 3

    10. Dutch Braid Pony

We love the idea of mxing braids with ponytails, and as an added bonus, this combo works for short or medium length hair as well.

    Step 1

    Create a side part.

    Step 2

Start creating a dutch braid down the side of your head towards the back, and tie with a small elastic.

    Step 3

Pull all your hair, including the braid, into a low ponytail in the back.

    Step 4

Take the piece that is the braid within the ponytail, and wrap it around the base of the ponytail. This adds a creative element. Don’t worry if pieces are falling out—it just adds to that messy look!

    Step 5

Replace the small elastic with bobby pins to secure the wrapped braid at the bottom of your ponytail.

      11. Classic Ponytail with Extensions

Running late? This ponytail is perfect to achieve when you haven't got a minute to spare. Just use a few wefts from your w extensions to spice up that ponytail with some added volume and texture. Elanna uses some wefts from her 220g Dirty Blonde Luxy Hair extensions.

      Step 1

Select a few pieces to frame your face and set aside.

      Step 2

Bunch your hair into a regular ponytail while ensuring you have enough volume at the top of your head by tugging at a few strands at the top.

      Step 3

Once you are happy with the placement, use an elastic to tie and secure the ponytail.

      Step 4

To create a sleek look, take a small section of hair from the ponytail and wrap it around the elastic making it disappear. Pin the section in place with a bobby pin.
