The holiday season is in full swing and that means party time! Whether that means a bunch of fun dinners planned with friends, some low-key family time, an office party, or all of the above, we have the hair inspiration you’ve been looking for.
Of course, there’s no better time than the holidays to try out an intricate, adventurous hairstyle but we know the last thing you want to do is spend hours in front of the mirror fussing with your hair when you already have so much on your plate.
To help you out, our friend Elanna shows us how to create 3 easy party updos perfect for whatever holiday events you have in store. Best of all, heat styling your hair is totally optional.
If you don’t already have long hair or want to add some fullness, all you’ll need are your Luxy Hair extensions to achieve these looks. Elanna has medium length hair which thins out towards the ends, so she uses a combination of Chestnut Brown and Dirty Blonde Luxy Hair extensions for added length and volume. She likes to use both these colors to ensure the extensions blend with her hair seamlessly.
Hairstyle 1: Messy bun updo
Step 1
Start off by clipping in your Luxy Hair extensions. Since Elanna is using two different shades, she doesn’t use all the wefts—just enough to create some volume. Create a circle at the crown of your head, pulling that section of hair away into a ponytail and tying it off. Elanna takes four of her 2-clip wefts, pairing a Chestnut Brown and Dirty Blonde weft together to ensure everything blends seamlessly, clipping them on top of the pulled back section of hair.
Step 2
Next, separate some face-framing pieces from the rest of your hair to give you an effortless look. Take the rest of your hair and tie it up around the hair extensions. Elanna uses a brush to smooth out any bumps at the back and sides of her head, using an elastic to secure her hair and the extensions in place.
Step 3
For added fullness, take a comb or hair brush and begin backcombing the hair gently once it is in the ponytail. This will help give your hair a voluminous, messy look. You could even just stop the look here and rock a high ponytail, but as always, we’re going to take things to the next level.
Step 4
Begin lightly twisting your hair back, careful to maintain the texture created earlier. Don’t pull too tightly, as you want the bun to look a little bit undone and not too polished. Keep in mind, this hairstyle might turn out differently every time you do it, depending on how your hair cooperates. Play around with the positioning of the bun until you’re happy with it. Then, secure in place with some bobby pins.
Step 5
Finish off the look by carefully tugging on the sides of your hair to give you a loose, tousled vibe. Whether you’re in a rush or heading to a holiday party straight after work, this is a foolproof, easy hairstyle anyone can achieve. If you want to up the glam factor, all you have to do is add some hair accessories.
Hairstyle 2: Sleek low bun
Step 1
For this second hairstyle, Elanna clips in all of her wefts, as she does on an everyday basis. Start off by sectioning away the bottom section of hair, right beneath your ears. Elanna clips in two 3-clip wefts from her Chestnut Brown set since she doesn’t have as much blonde peeking through on her bottom section of hair.
Next, move on to the middle section of hair, right below the temple area. Section it off and apply two 4-clip wefts. Elanna clips the Chestnut Brown on top of the Dirty Blonde to ensure the hair extensions blend properly.
Finally, section off the hair just above your temples and clip in two 2-clip wefts on each side following the same method as before (clip the Chestnut Brown weft on top of the Dirty Blonde weft before applying to your head).
Step 2
Elanna has some relaxed slept-on waves in her hair from the day before but you can either embrace your natural texture or add in some fresh curls. Brush all of your hair back to get a sleek look. In fact, if you have slightly greasy, third-day hair, you’ll be even better off...who would have thought? Add a little bit of hairspray to tame those pesky baby hairs and ensure the style looks smooth.
Step 3
Secure your hair into a ponytail with an elastic ensuring there are no bumps or stray hairs. Take your hair brush again and smooth out the ends of the extensions for a more polished and sophisticated look.
Step 4
Split the hair in your ponytail into two sections and begin twisting, wrap the ponytail around itself and secure it into a low bun just above the nape of your neck. Finish off with some hairspray—you can even spray directly into your comb!
Hairstyle 3: Twisted ponytail braid

Step 1
Clip in all of your wefts the same way you did for Hairstyle 2, except for the final two 2-clip wefts on either side. Then, section off the front pieces of your hair around the midpoint of your head and clip in the 2-clip wefts vertically, making it easier to create a braid.
Step 2
Starting at the front of your head, begin French braiding your hair. You can also do a fishtail braid or a dutch braid. Once you get behind your ear, stop adding pieces to the braid and just continue braiding your hair normally until you reach the end of your hair. Pull on the braid gently to make it look thicker and add some texture. Then, replicate on the other side.
Step 3
Pull out some pieces of hair around your face for a more relaxed, bohemian look.
Step 4
Tie the rest of your hair into a low ponytail at the back of your head, leaving out the braids. Pull the ponytail through itself above the elastic. Take each of the braids and begin wrapping around the base of the ponytail, pinning it in place. Creative, elegant, and show-stopping, this look is perfect for whatever holiday party you have in store.
