That's right, from short hair to long hair, celebrity hairstylists have been utilizing hair extensions to boost their clients' hair to new heights! Those voluminous lobs that seem to defy gravity? Very often, when people think about hair extensions, they think about adding length to their hair. But what if you mostly struggle with thin hair and aren't really looking to add length to your hair—just volume? Better yet, what if you have short hair, love your hair length and just need to add a little life to your hairstyle? The best part about hair extensions is that they can be customized to solve your individual hair problems. Not interested in length? No problem!
These days, we understand that it's not all about mermaid length hair—that's why we created a 16" length to add to our collection of hair extensions. Available in a 140g weight, the 16" collection is the perfect length to complement your lob or medium length hair, while adding a touch of length, and all the volume.

Already have a set of our Classic 20" Luxy Hair extensions but want to embrace your shorter hair?
If you are using hair extensions for volume rather than length, the 20" extensions will likely be longer than your natural hair, unless you already have ultra long hair. Since Luxy Hair extensions are made with 100% remy human hair, they can be cut or trimmed just like your own natural hair, without affecting the integrity of the wefts or extensions.
All you need to do is give the extensions a snip to match your natural hair's length, to use the extensions just for volume. While we recommend that a professional make the chop, if you are comfortable wielding a pair of hairstylist scissors (careful, they're sharp!) you can certainly do this yourself at home. We recommend to ensure that your scissors are as sharp as possible, to cut accurately and smoothly. Otherwise, the hair will bend, rather than cut, and may end up looking choppy.
In the following video, we'll walk you through how to use your 20" Luxy Hair extensions for volume rather than length.
In this video, Sarah uses her 220g Ombre Chestnut Luxy Hair extensions. This set adds extra volume and thickness to her hair, while also adding some highlights at the ends and colour dimension throughout.
Using Luxy Hair extensions for volume is great because they can be applied to any hair type. Whether you have a lob, hair that is of an average thickness, or medium length hair, all it takes is a few snips and strategic clipping to get big, voluminous hair in just a few minutes without adding length and of course, without damaging your hair.

1. Trimming scissors
2. Your Luxy Hair extensions
3. A steady hand!
How to trim your hair extensions
It is not necessary to trim your entire set of extensions. Depending on your hair type, just a few wefts can make a big difference in the thickness of your hair, however, if you are looking for mega volume, we say go ahead and trim your full set!
Step 1: Straighten your hair
Since Luxy Hair extensions are made with 100% remy human hair, they come naturally straight. Therefore, we recommend that you straighten your hair as well, to match the texture of the extensions before cutting them. This will ensure that the length you cut the extensions to is accurate, otherwise, when you style the extensions, they will appear shorter than you originally thought.
Step 2: Trim your extensions weft by weft
In order to trim your hair extensions yourself so that they are the same length as your natural hair, we recommend to clip your Luxies in weft by weft, and trim off the excess length each time, rather than snipping off a huge chunk of hair at one go. Patience is key here! If your hair is layered, you will want to follow the length of the layers, trimming each weft a little shorter the higher up on your head that it is clipped in.
Step 3: Feather the ends
In order to make sure that the wefts you are cutting look natural, we recommend to first cut the hair horizontally to ensure that you are cutting the weft straight, leaving the weft about half an inch longer. Then, turn your scissors and snip vertically along the edge to feather the ends. This will make the ends of the weft look much more natural, rather than extremely blunt, which is not how natural hair grows.
It's that easy! Now, your hair extensions are the same length as your hair, and you can pop your wefts in whenever you feel like having some extra, voluminous hair for a night out or even everyday.
What if your hair is longer than 20 inches?
If your hair is longer than 20 inches, this is the ideal situation for you. In this case, you can simply clip your Luxy Hair extensions in right out of the box, to use for volume rather than length. Even if your hair is an inch or two longer than your hair extensions, the extra wefts clipped in will still do the trick to add volume and thickness to your hair, without the length being too noticeable.
What if you need more thickness than a full set of Luxy Hair extensions?
You're in luck! Not only are you blessed with lovely thick hair, we also have a Volumizer Weft for situations like these. Our Volumizer Weft comes with one 4-clip weft that is 7" long, with 45g of hair attached. This weft can be used as a supplemental weft to your existing set of Luxies for even more thickness.
Alternatively, if you are only looking to add a little bit of thickness to your hair, you can wear the Volumizer Weft on its own. Be sure to trim the weft according to our instructions above if your hair is shorter than 20", however, to ensure that the weft blends naturally in your hair, giving it that extra volume. If your hair is 20" or longer, you can simply clip the Volumizer Weft in at the crown of your hair for that added thickness.
Hair extensions are truly a versatile hair accessory and don't have to be used just for adding va-va-voom length. Even short haired gals can get in on the fun, by wearing hair extensions to enhance their hair in a natural way.
Want to add even more volume? Here are some more hacks to take your hair to new heights
1. Use a volumizing shampoo
Shampoos with volumizing formulas make the hair lighter, boost it from the roots, and open up the hair cuticle, making hair strands look thicker. In order to get your hair nice and fluffy, however, try to pick a shampoo with a lightweight conditioning ingredient that rinses off well. Also, stay away from super creamy formulas if you have fine hair, as these will definitely weigh your hair down, leading to a drab, flat 'do. It goes without saying that any shampoo or conditioner you should should also be free of those dreaded sulfates, alcohols, and silicones.
3. Add texturizing spray and a touch of dry shampoo
Michael Duenas, the main behind Noah Cyrus' signature weightless yet texturized hair taught us this little trick. Before blow drying, spray texturizing spray to wet hair and some dry shampoo over that for extra weightless hold. Then, proceed with blow drying as usual and watch your hair magically lift on its own!
2. Give yourself a salon blowout at home
We'd like to argue that one of the best feelings in the world is leaving the hair salon with a fresh blow dry. Have you ever noticed how volumized and bouncy your hair looks after you leave the salon? That's because hairstylists have mastered the art of the blowout—in fact, there are blow dry bars completely dedicated to giving women the perfect blowout every time! Using a large barrel round brush, take some time to learn how to blow your hair out at home, to get perfect, voluminous hair everytime. Click here for a full tutorial.
4. Flip your hair over when blow drying
This is the oldest, and easiest trick in the book to get instant volume in your hair. If you haven't quite mastered the art of the salon blowout just yet, fake it 'till you make it by flipping your hair before blow drying. Then, give your hair a final blast of cold air to lock in the style before flipping your hair back. Voila! Instant volume.
5. Tease your roots
The 80's may be long gone, but big, voluminous hair will never go out of style. Although hair teasing has a bad reputation from women over teasing their hair in the 80s, giving your hair a slight backcomb at the roots is a quick and easy way to instantly get more lift at the roots. Another reason why teasing your hair is so great? If you have fine hair and your hair extensions constantly slip, teasing your roots will give the hair extra hold and a firm grip for the hair extensions to clip onto.
