Mimi is back, and she is letting us in on her new favourite go-to hairstyle! If you’ve been searching for an easy, effortless hair style to wear to school, or to work, then look no further because we have just what you need. Nothing feels better than leaving the house knowing that your hair looks fabulous, and with these fresh new waves you really can’t go wrong. Check out the full tutorial right after this, or achieve this look by following the steps below:

Divide your hair into sections

Start by brushing out your hair and making sure that there are no knots or tangles. This will ensure that your waves look loose and soft, with minimal damage to your hair from heat styling. Here's a handy guide to choosing the right brush for detangling. From there, divide your hair into 2 big sections, so it is easier to work with. Depending on the thickness of your hair, you can divide your hair as many times as you feel necessary, simply clipping away the section you are not working on.

Choose the size of your curling barrel

It is important to take into consideration what size curling wand you are using. Mimi is using a 1-inch barrel iron, which creates medium size waves. The smaller the barrel you use, the tighter, the waves will be. If you were to use a 2-inch barrel, the waves would be even more relaxed and loose, so it is completely up to you. Remember, protection is key, so be sure to spray your hair with heat protectant before beginning to curl. Here are some more tips to preventing damage to your locks when heat styling.

Wrap each section around the barrel

The goal with this look is to create soft, loose waves, so the method is a little different than creating a simple curl. Begin by grabbing a 1 or 2-inch section of hair (depending on your hair type) and pinching it about ¾ up the section. Place your curling wand on top of the hair and wrap the section around the barrel for 10-15 seconds, ensuring to wrap it in the direction away from your face. Do your best to not flatten out the hair on the iron! The further the space you leave between each wrap around the barrel, the looser and more effortless your wave look.

Let each curl cool in your hand

We’ve all had our curls begin to flatten out and fall moments after finishing our hair, but there is a great trick to help avoid that! Slide each curl off the barrel and hold it in your hand for a few seconds to cool it down before letting it go. This will help the wave hold and maintain its shape, keeping all of your hard work in place. Continue this process through all the sections of your hair. Once you switch to the left side, be sure to wrap the hair in the other direction, away from your face.

Add Luxy Hair extensions

You can of course clip in your Luxy Hair extensions before beginning to curl your hair, but it is much easier to curl your extensions while they are not clipped in. This will also give them time to cool down, holding your beautiful waves in place. Follow the same method as curling your natural hair, beginning ¾ of the way up, and making sure not to smooth the hair onto the wand. This helps achieve that cool, loose wave as opposed to a ringlet curl.
