Summer Hairstyles With Headscarves

Summer is in full swing, which means flowy fabrics and bright colours—these don't have to just be about your clothes, though. Headscarves are the ultimate summer hair accessory since bobby pins. Wearing a headscarf is a great way to cover any greasy, sweaty roots on hot days, or incorporating a beautiful, brightly coloured, delicate silk or chiffon scarf into your summer hairstyle can take it from drab to fab. We've teamed up with our friends Jordan and Kassinka this week to bring you beautiful summer hairstyles which all incorporate headscarves

In the video above, Jordan wears her Classic 160g Natural Red Luxy Hair extensions. In the tutorials below, Kassinka uses her Seamless Blonde Balayage Luxies. Learn the difference between our Seamless and Classic collections here

How to choose the right headscarf:

Hair scarf hairstylesIn order to ensure that your headscarf blends in beautifully with your hairstyle, we recommend to choose a lightweight, smooth fabric. 100% silk is luxurious and easy to work with, while satin headscarves have a beautiful sheen and come in a variety of colors. These fabrics are also thin, delicate and smooth, so they can glide and weave into your hair with minimal damage. We recommend to steer away from heavier fabrics like cotton, as they can create friction on the hair, leading to static and frizziness or even cuticle damage. Learn more about why silk is better for your hair than cotton here. You can find some beautiful satin and silk headscarves at Urban Outfitters, ASOS, and Nordstrom.

Now that you've chosen your perfect headscarf, it's time to to learn how to spice up your hairstyle with this summer hair accessory. Read on.

Step 1. Start with loose waves in your hair. Kassinka brushed out her second day curls to achieve these loose waves, however, you can learn how to create effortless loose waves here

Step 2. Add a 2-clip weft from your Luxy Hair extensions to either side of your head, just below your temple. This will ensure that the braids you are going to create are nice and full.

Step 3. Take a thick section of hair from one side and create a tight 3 strand braid, being sure to braid the hair toward the back of your head. Braiding the hair in this direction will keep the braid nice and smooth against your head. Secure the end with an elastic.

Hairstyle #2: half up hairstyle with fishtail braid

Hairstyles with headscarves

Step 1. Start by clipping in either a 3-clip or 4-clip weft from your Luxy Hair extensions at the crown of your head. This extra hair will ensure that your fishtail braid is full and thick. Depending on your head size, either of these wefts will work, and if you want an even fuller look, you can stack two wefts on top of each other.

Step 2. Now, create a half fishtail braid at the back of your hair. Divide the top half of your hair into two sections, take a small section of hair from one side of your head, pull it to the back, and cross it over. Repeat on the other side and keep going, adding a bit more hair each time.

Step 3. Once your fishtail braid is 4-5 inches long, tie it off with an elastic and leave the rest of the braid loose.

Step 4. Pancake time! Seriously, we just love full and thick braids so go ahead and pull that fishtail braid apart for a thicker look.

Step 5. Take your headscarf, loosely roll it up from corner to corner, then tie it over the elastic to spice up this half up hairstyle with colour. You can either double knot the headscarf and leave the ends loose and flowy or tie it in a bow.

Step 5. Grab your headscarf, roll it up. and tie it around your ponytail at the top OR the bottom. It's up to you! If you tie the headscarf at the top, you can leave the ends loose. If you tie it at the bottom, a bow would look beautiful. Either way, you can customize this headscarf hairstyle however you want.
