Not only are we a huge fan of Stephanie's third day hair morning routine because it lets us spend some extra time in the morning on other activities, but this is also a great way to give your hair a break from washing it too much. While we all love the feeling of freshly washed hair, over-washing your hair is actually counter-productive, as your hair then becomes oilier faster, consistently relying on those frequent washes. By washing your hair as little as often, your hair naturally trains itself to produce fewer oils, and in the long run, can even go an entire week without washing!
Step 1: dry shampoo
Dry shampoo is seriously a holy grail product for any girl on the go. Dry shampoo comes in either a powder or spray form, and is designed to absorb excess oil at the roots of the hair. Don't have time to wash your hair? No problem! Simply rub some dry shampoo into oily sections of your hair oily spots watch your hair instantly transform. Not only does dry shampoo get rid of excess oil, it also provides lift at the roots for extra volume.
Stephanie applies the dry shampoo around the front of her face where oil and sweat tends to collect, and also applies a light dusting throughout the rest of her hair at the roots, working the product in for texture and lift.
Since washing your hair too often is not good for your hair anyway, dry shampoo lets you stretch your hair wash days by a day or two to preserve your hair's natural oils. Remember, this is not a replacement for washing your hair so try to only use dry shampoo for a maximum of two days before giving your hair a good wash. You can also use baby powder or make your own dry shampoo at home if you don't have any available to achieve similar results.
Step 2: clip in hair extensions
Ladies, you didn't think we were done, did you? As you know, we love big, beautiful, long, thick hair here at Luxy Hair, so we're going to take this third day hair hairstyle to the next level! Stephanie uses her full set of Seamless Ombre Chestnut Luxies for her morning routine, applying all 10 wefts throughout her hair for that extra volume and length.
While everyone has their own way of clipping in the wefts, we recommend following this guide on how to clip in hair extensions if you're new to the hair extensions world. Once you've mastered the basics, you can play around and find what system works best for you. As a good rule of thumb, save the largest wefts for the widest part of your head, and use the smaller 1-clip and 2-clip wefts for extra thickness around the front of your face.
Stephanie wears the Seamless collection because the base of the wefts are super thin, held with silicone rather than fabric. This means that the wefts lie totally flat against your head, as well as have a unique stretch and movement for ultimate comfort. If your hair is quite thick, however, we recommend to opt for our thickest 220g Classic set, and if your hair is very thin, the 120g Classic set should be right for you. Step 3: curl your hair
As you can see, Luxy Hair extensions can be worn as is without the need for styling, however, curling the extensions will help them blend better, and of course, further mask any third day oiliness left over in your hair.
While we usually recommend to use heat at little as possible on your hair, when curling your hair, we recommend to use a heat protectant spray to preserve not only your natural hair's health, but the health of your hair extensions. Be sure to use a maximum heat setting of 120C or 250F, to prevent heat damage to your hair.
To ensure that the extensions blend in with your natural hair when curling, we recommend to take a piece of your natural hair and a piece of the extensions, wrapping both strands around your curling iron or curling wand at the same time. Step 4: brush out the curls
Final step! Take a paddle brush and carefully brush all your hair from bottom to top, separating and breaking up the curls. This will not only make your hair extensions and curls look more natural and blended, but will also make the hair look more full at the bottom. Hold the hair firmly at the roots to keep the wefts in place while you brush your hair.
And thats it!
In just 4 quick steps, Stephanie has transformed her third day hair from oily and lifeless to fresh and full, with the use of dry shampoo, Luxy Hair extensions, and a curling wand. Be sure to add these steps to your morning routine, give your hair a break from washing, and use the extra time you gain in the morning to your advantage.
