4 celebrity inspired hairstyles to recreate at home

Let's face it: celebrities inform many of the choices we make, whether consciously or subconsciously. From supermodels Bella Hadid and Hailey Beiber kickstarting fashion trends like bike shorts and reflective streetwear to Kendall Jenner bringing in a new era of shorter locks, to Alexa Chung popularizing choppy, messy bangs, inspiration for new hairstyles and fashion choices are everywhere, if you just look closely.

We've gathered four iconic celebrity hairstyles through the years, with step by step instructions on how to recreate them. Whether you're going for a retro vibe with Brigitte Bardot's signature hair pouf or turn to Disney Princess Elsa from Frozen's iconic, mega volume braid (okay, so she's technically not a real live celebrity, but we couldn't ignore her braid!), we hope you get inspired by these celeb hairstyles as much as us.

Celebrity hairstyle 1: Cinderella

In this tutorial, we show you how to create beautiful and feminine waves that Cinderella wore all throughout the latest live action movie. We're also gonna show you how to then transfer those waves into the intricate hairstyle Cinderella wears to the ball with her prince. It's such an elegant hairstyle that is absolutely perfect for a dinner out, prom or wedding. You can create a similar look with our Dark Brown Balayage hair extensions for thickness and length, as well as to create the rope braid for the final ball look. Make sure to watch the Hair tutorial to the end to see some bloopers—we had a little too much fun filming this hair tutorial!

Step 1

Clip your hair extensions in, and part your hair in the middle. Then, brush through your hair to remove any tangles.

Step 2

Spray your hair with heat protectant, and start to curl your hair with a tapered curling wand to create those tight, bouncy princess curls. Take a small 1 inch section of hair and curl it starting at the very top. Once curls, release the curl into the palm of your hand and let it cool before letting it go. Then, pull on the curl slightly to loosen it into a wave.

Step 3

Repeat step 2 until all your hair is curled.

Step 4

Now it’s time to create your rope braid headband. Take a 4-clip weft, and separate it into two sections. Twist both sections tightly clockwise, then twist both those twists on themselves to create a rope effect. Make sure to constantly tighten each section to keep the rope taught, otherwise it may come apart. Once you reach the end, secure the rope braid with an elastic.

Step 5

Create an opening right by your ear on one side and secure the end of the braid behind your ear with some bobby pins. Bring the braid over your head and pin the end with the clips behind your other ear.

Step 6

Finally, take any face-framing pieces, wrap them over the headband and secure into place for a neat, final, magical look.

Celebrity hairstyle 2: Elsa

If you're anything like us, you couldn't stop drooling over Elsa's mega voluminous braid all through the movie Frozen. Say what you will about Disney, but they sure know how to give their Princesses the best hair! While Elsa is an animation, we've figured out how to get as close as possible to her beautiful braid.

Step 1

To achieve that voluminous braid, start off by clipping in your full set of hair extensions. Create a similar look with Dark Brown Balayage hair extensions

STEP 2

The key to Elsa’s braid is volume, volume, volume! To achieve this, separate a section of hair at the crown of your head and spray a bit of hairspray at the roots. Then, tease the hair with a teasing brush. Repeat this with a few more sections around the crown, then smooth all the hair down gently with a comb.

STEP 3

French braid your hair starting at the crown of your head. As you work your way down, add a bit of hair from the sides to the braid. The smaller the sections you work with, the more intricate the braid will look.

STEP 4

Once your French braid reaches the nape of your neck, bring all your hair around to one side and finish off the braid in a regular, three-strand braid.

STEP 5

Finally, for the extra volume in your braid, take a rattail comb and gently insert the end at the crown of your head, pulling at the roots to create a larger pouf. Then, pancake your entire braid by gently pulling it apart, which will give it that bigger, fluffier effect.

Celebrity hairstyle 3: Brigitte Bardot

We just love Brigitte Bardot's iconic, effortless, voluminous hair with texture, and had to recreate her look. Because Brigitte Bardot's hair was all about volume, hair extensions are key to recreating this look. Create a similar look with our Dark Brown Balayage hair extensions

Step 1

Clip your hair extensions in and create a messy middle part.

Step 2

Using a teasing brush, tease all the hair at the crown of your head, being sure not to tease the extensions as you may damage them. Start in the back, working your way toward the front. If you have fine hair, you can use a bit of hairspray to help hold the hair.

Step 3

Once your hair is teased, gather half your hair toward the back and bobby pin it down. Don't worry about making the look too neat, as Brigitte's hair was all about look sexy and undone.

Step 4

Take a 1 1/2 inch barrel curling wand and create messy, barely-there waves to complete the look.

Celebrity hairstyle 4: Vanessa Hudgens

Vanessa Hudgens is now known as the Queen of Coachella, however, she will always be our high school sweetheart. What better way to show our love for the Wild Cats than to recreate this romantic side ponytail worn by her? Add some hair extensions to the look to really elevate it with extra volume and thickness.

Step 1

Clip your hair extensions in and brush through any tangles.

Step 2

Using a large 2 inch curling wand, curl large sections of hair away from your face. Hold each section for about 15 seconds before releasing. Curl only random sections of hair, then brush through the curls with your fingers.

Step 3

Gather all your hair to the right side of your head. Then, grab a 2 inch strand of the longest section of hair, and wrap two to three times around the middle of your hair, creating a ponytail. Secure the strand down with a bobby pin in the back.

Step 4

Use a bobby pin to secure any pieces in the back that may have fallen out.

And there you have it! Four celebrity inspired hairstyles that you can recreate right at home—no glam squad required. Which celebrity hairstyle is your favourite? Let us know in the comments below.
